Finch Glen Iris
Finch was a major renovation and extension designed by Arcolo Architecture. Tonnes of structural steel and structural work was involved to switch the staircase around, extend the rear living room and kitchen, which allowed the natural light to fill the living areas with new skylights and windows. New joinery to the kitchen, butlers pantry, study and under stair storage. A new Tasmanian Oak curved wall to the powder room was added along with family bathroom. A walk in temperature controlled wine cellar is the centre piece of the hallway, along with the panelling throughout the hallways and ceiling of the entry. Add luxurious leather banquette seating to the dining area turning the house into a light filled masterpiece. Great job, great clients, great design.
Palm Island
Palm Island
Palm Island Patterson Lakes was a second storey extension comprising a lounge room and extending 2 of the upstairs bedrooms. It also contained a balcony off the lounge room with an alfresco underneath. The engineering to the job started out being timber beams, but all changed when the original floor joists were smaller than drawn on the plans so all the structural beams changed to steel. This was a challenging job – firstly the access was very tight and we had the roof off in the middle of winter which was directly over the master bedroom and the kitchen/dining. And the owners and their kids were living through the building works. We built a temporary wall dividing off the kitchen, with a dog door so the dog could access the backyard. We demolished the existing house bit by bit keeping an eye on the weather waiting for a clear few days to a week to get the roof off and on and tarped up. I am very proud to say we only had a few drops of water come into the corners of the house. The clients were great and the extension looks like it was always there.
Ti Tree
Ti Tree
Ti Tree was an extension involving extending the front of the existing house to include a study, extra bedroom and large entrance to be converted at a later stage to a mud room. The family bathroom was gutted and redone along with a new laundry. The whole of the downstairs had new timber flooring installed and painting to the ground floor. The rear balcony and rotten decking beams were structurally renovated and new glass balustrade installed. The final stage was the completion of the double carport. Great location, amazing clients.
Seabrook
Seabrook
Seabrook was an extension involving extending out the back lounge and dining room and adding an undercover alfresco, services for outdoor kitchen and cutting in a large window upstairs and adding bench seating and cabinets. However there was a fair bit of demolition before this was able to be started The clients lived in this while construction took place. From the beginning we amended the plans for the bettter to add squaring off the existing window to the lounge that was to remain and what a great call that was. Getting onto these changes early meant no delays and the job flowed freely from there. A few tweaks to the engineering by changing a timber beam to steel meant we didn’t need to create an ugly bulkhead in the extension! The kitchen was boardering on the extension so a temporary wall was built to keep the dust, wind and dirt out. We installed the old door so they and ourselves had access outside. You can see in the last few photos the temporary wall and the amount of dust that came down when the ceiling was demoloshed. We demolished bit by bit building from the outside in to give the clients as much comfort as possible. This job began towards the end of winter and spring and we did very well to keep everything water tight. The clients were to finish off the painting and the outdoor kitchen. Ben, Kylie and family were awesome throughout the construction process!

The Parkway
The Parkway was a single storey brick veneer on slab extension. Comprising of a lounge room, bedroom and study it serves the purpose of space for the every growing family. This was a prety simple type of extension running in with the roof line of the existing house. It didn’t really disrupt the household untill we broke through once the extension was locked up. By that time the family was on holidays, painting done and we were finished! Geoff and Emma were great throughout.
